A Lifelong Passion for Rhythm

Joshua Agilan began his journey as an educator in 2002. With a deep rooted passion for rhythm, he has inspired countless students from preschoolers to professionals through his innovative teaching style and unwavering dedication to music education.

In 2002, he founded Drumstruck Studios, which has since grown into a respected contemporary music school known for its excellence in drum and music instruction.

ROOTED IN EXCELLENCE

An Educator at Heart, Guiding with Purpose

Joshua's journey is built on a deep commitment to music education. He holds distinctions in Pop Music Theory, Grade 8 Drum Kit, and multiple Licentiate Diplomas from both the London College of Music and Rockschool UK. As a certified Rockschool Teaching Diploma Trainer, he has conducted workshops for Yamaha Music Asia, local music schools, churches, and educational institutions across the region.

He honed his craft through masterclasses with drumming legends like Thomas Lang, Jojo Mayer, Mike Mangini, Horacio Hernandez, Tommy Igoe, and Dave Weckl. These experiences shaped his unique and energetic teaching style.

SETTING THE STANDARD

A Leader in Music Development

Joshua’s leadership has left a mark on the regional music scene. He served as a judge for the Asian Beat Band Competition (2006, 2008, 2010), Rock Fest 2018 in Kuala Lumpur, and the highly regarded Drum Off Singapore, as well as the international Drum Off Global between 2017 and 2019. Most recently, he was invited to serve on the panel of judges for the Asian Supreme Drum Competition 2025.

As a key Trainer at the Academy of Rock in Singapore, Myanmar and the Philippines, Joshua developed innovative curricula, mentored instructors and led the drum department. He also authored the Drumming for Children program for Drumstruck Studios, setting a new standard for kids drum lessons.

AMPLIFYING CULTURE

Pioneering the Tamil Music Movement

In 2015, Joshua founded Dhoom Super Band, Singapore’s first ever Tamil live band competition. This breakthrough initiative was featured on Vasantham’s Thaalam, The Indian Beat and opened doors for countless local Indian musicians.

Joshua’s goal was simple: to create a platform that empowered Indian youth to take the stage and celebrate their heritage through music.

Today, he continues this mission as the founding member of the live band Veritas, actively collaborating with artists and producing original work that blends tradition with contemporary energy.

LIVE FROM THE STAGE

A Performer Who Inspires

Joshua’s performance career includes some of Singapore’s most iconic musical moments. After recording drums for the Vettai 2.0 series in 2012, he made his debut at Vasantham Live!, Mediacorp’s 50th Anniversary Concert.

In 2014, he took the stage at the Anirudh Live in Singapore Concert, performing alongside Lady Kash, Arjun UK, and Anirudh. He later shared the spotlight with K.S. Chitra in the Yaar Antha Star program on Vasantham TV Channel.

His drumming and mentorship have been featured in shows like Friends, Thaalam, The Indian Beat, Vaazhkai, Vizhigal and Not the 5 Show on Channel 5 where his students delivered a standout live cover of 'Titanium' by David Guetta and Sia.
